go-to pantry provisions:
if you can’t tell, going out to eat is my love language. but there is also something special about bringing the flavor of your go-to spots into your own kitchen (you know i love a condiment). having these provisions, that you actually look forward to using, makes eating at home feel that much more *special*. while compiling a list of my pantry essentials, i realized most are local + independently owned, plus i personally know most of the makers (good people make good things!). and yeah our pantry is also stocked with the less exciting everyday staples like salt (we’re big salt heads), tamari, brown rice, nutritional yeast, popcorn and all that, but here’s all the fun stuff.
coffee - canyon coffee coffee beans + blue bottle’s instant espresso for when your partner/roommate’s snoozing and you can’t grind your beans
seasoning - woon sea moss
oil - graza olive oil + west~bourne avocado oil + algae cooking club
condiments - nour dressing + brothers products vegan pesto + dave’s korean miso dressing + ciao pappy marinara

produce - your neighborhood farmers market: echo park fm on friday pm, silverlake fm on saturday am + hollywood fm sunday am. if you’re on the westside, santa monica fm on wednesdays is gold
na bubbles - vichy catalan spanish sparkling water
natural wine - all my go-tos here
tabletop - atelier saucier linens, robert siegel studio ceramics + ornata candle sticks
where to buy all of the above - direct or at your local grocer or shoppy shop.
my current go-to grocer is la grocery & cafe — i’m obsessed with their cafe offerings
sidenote, if anyone sees sold out hot girl pickles come back in stock, grab me a jar?!
la’s vegan decline:
much to my dismay, la’s beloved vegan restaurants are closing or adding meat to the menus. silverlake’s jewel (a true gem — rip) and flore 2.0 both closed. burgerlords, hot tongue and sage have all added meat options. even my absolute favorite just what i kneaded is struggling. you’d think if there was ever a place for a vegan restaurant to flourish, it’d be los angeles. but with the landscape of la’s hospitality industry still quite bleak, everywhere’s struggling so go and support your neighborhood spots before it’s too late. i went over to frogtown this am for a jwik little treat, now serving from their sister bar justine’s for a wine bar breakfast feel (in the best way).
la happenings + openings:
zizou - newly opened in lincoln heights with an ideal patio situation – going asap
camelia - newly opened in arts district by the ototo team – have a res for friday
barr seco - opening really soon in silverlake - mexico city inspired cafe with natural wine
*bar name tbd* - opening in virgil village - drumm hospitality (sogo, covell, hermosillo, etc.) is bringing life back to the bolita space, formerly equal parts + smog cutter
good boy & friends - third annual wine fair / party took place this past weekend at homage. my favorite sips (of many) were mischief, everything is okay, gpa and good boy of course
now reading:
feed me – emily sundberg’s feed me is easily my favorite substack to hit my inbox. though nyc leaning, emily covers it all, but i especially liked this one about eating disorder culture. our culture seems to be taking steps backwards in our view on diet culture with our obsession with thinness. that said, it is cool to see pop culture beginning to treat eating disorders as less taboo. as someone who’s personally struggled, i felt seen hearing charli xcx + lorde, and billie all touch on eating disorders + body image in their lyrics. i find comfort ingesting media on other people’s eating disorder journeys so i’m literally adding feed me book recs emmeline clein’s dead weight and emma specter’s more, please to my library holds as we speak.
brooklyn’s mr. fruit – grubstreet covers the back story to brooklyn’s cult favorite mr. (insert fruit name) bodegas. i was team mr. piña (also rip) since i lived two blocks away in williamsburg and would go for the crazily inexpensive fresh juice and produce, but really all the mr. fruits of brooklyn are where it’s at.
now playing:
apple by charli xcx
brat summer soundtrack + go-to track from the iconic album

where to california road trip and dirty martinis…
speaking of which, the benjamin’s tini really spoke to me with its caper garnish
